I know I haven’t gotten a chance to update on John’s surgery and that will be my next post. In the meantime he did great and is already back home. Two days in the hospital for brain surgery is pretty awesome in my book! First though I want to tell you about the book I’ve been reviewing for the last month.
A Child’s Geography Explore the Classical World ($34.95) has been so much fun to read! This last year our family has truly been blessed to receive so many wonderful options for our homeschool and this one is right up there with the best of them. This is the third volume in the A Child’s Geography series by Knowledge Quest and is written by Terri Johnson. This book is inteaded for grades 1-6 but could be adapted for middle school grades as well. Explore the Classical World can easily be used as both a geography book and a history book combined. It is also considered a “living book” if you follow the Charlotte Mason style of education. There are no boring facts and bland pictures. The entire book makes you want to continue reading to learn more and see the amazing full color pictures.
We received the e-book version of this volume. I will admit to being slightly sad I wasn’t one of the one’s selected for the physical product because some of the time e-books seem to lose the feel of a real book. I was so happy to find that I didn’t feel like we were missing out in any way with this version. The physical book available for $34.95 comes with a CD of timelines, map work, recipes, activities, and prayer guides for each of the countries studied. The e-book comes with all the same things only in digital format for $24.95. In fifteen chapters you will travel through twelve countries Greece, Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, San Marino, the Vatican and Malta.
Jahnna loves studying about this area of the world and has spent much of the last three years studying different aspects of them. I figured this would be more of a supplement for her than a full curriculum. There is so much information and so many fun activities that she hasn’t been bored at all and doesn’t want to put it down at the end of the lesson. The map work has been fun for her and she kept commenting on how detailed they were. That girl loves to cook so the recipes really appealed to her.
I’ve been given the opportunity to give away one copy of the e-book so make sure you enter. Don’t forget to enter the MEGA-GIVEAWAY below that. Two giveaways in one post!
