We had fun today watching the eclipse. We live where it was 94.8% covered so we stayed home to watch. Here are some of our pictures.
I love seeing the shadows through the trees.
Did you go anywhere for the eclipse? If you did what did you think?
I forgot to update after John’s surgery. This last week has been rough so I never got the chance. John had surgery on May 25th. He came home on Sunday evening. The pain from this surgery has been much worse than the previous two resections. He has also lost his appetite and when he does want to eat something he throws it up. I’d say I’d like to lose 13 pounds in a week but not that way!
So far I’ve noticed a few changes in his memory. He lost a bowl of pie and ice cream in our bed. That was a fun scavenger hunt. We needed to change our sheets anyway. He is only saying half of his thoughts but thinking he has said them all. That can also be fun. “Why didn’t you bring me my cane?” “Because you asked for pain meds.” “I asked for pain meds and my cane!” “Nope, just pain meds.” When I say fun what I really mean is frustrating for everyone involved.
John’s hands and arms shake a lot right now but I can’t figure out if it’s from not eating, side effects from some of the medications, or true tremors. That will take a little more time to figure out. In the meantime, a physical therapist is coming by today to fit him for a wheelchair. The day before John’s surgery we took Jahnna to an outdoor mall for her birthday. She wanted some books and some shirts for her birthday. The mall is roughly two city blocks big. By the time we walked down and halfway back John was physically exhausted and that was before surgery! Right now walking from our bedroom to the living room is wearing him out, so we’ll be working on endurance.
That’s about it for a surgery update around here. I needed today’s Motivational Monday saying to remind me that even though some weeks are hard, I can handle it! I hope you all have a fantastic week!
It’s another week! Thank goodness! I don’t know about you but after my week last week, I can use some motivational Monday support.
Last week we found out that John is going to have his third brain surgery this month. We met with a new neurosurgeon and really liked him. John’s original neurosurgeon said he didn’t want to go back in unless he absolutely had to. The new surgeon would prefer to do focal radiation but John doesn’t want any more radiation. The other option would be to only do chemo. Reoccurrence has been proven to be longer if you cut the tumor out first and then do chemo.
I was hoping to have Colby’s respite workers hired and trained by the time surgery happens. It’s not looking like that will happen so we’ll just have a party at the hospital. We still have a couple weeks before surgery so I’m hoping and praying it all works out by then.
Speaking of Colby, this kid has had a fever for ten days. I’m about to take him to the doctor and see what is going on. For a couple days I thought it was a virus. The last three days it’s been more like neurostorming. He hasn’t slept in two nights. Well he sleeps but it’s for about an hour. Most nights I have a nurse but the last two nights I haven’t. I’m a walking zombie and Colby is a cranky kid. We are quite a team! I am so thankful one of his nurses will be here tonight.
Hopefully, this week will be better than last week. Do you have any fun plans for the week?
