Hi Marie,
Sorry I didn\'t answer you back very quickly. It\'s been busy as usual around here. I\'m sorry about your mom\'s cancer return. I have my husband taking Graviola in addition to his chemo. Keep in mind I\'m not a doctor it\'s just what I felt drawn to when I was doing research after his diagnosis. It\'s supposed to help the cells fight the cancer but there is very little research on it. I use Vitacost to buy mine it\'s in a red and black bottle with a guy on the front. As far as the ODD goes we\'ve got her on a couple different medications for her bipolar disorder but the most effective thing for her was going to a pediatric therapist who basically told her all the same things I\'d been telling her. She just needed to hear it from someone else I guess. I\'ve also been giving her fermented cod liver oil/butter oil from green pastures and there is some growing research on supplementing mental disorders with niacin. I have not started her on the niacin because she tends to run manic and it can make mania worse. I will probably keep it on my list of things to try with her and when it is winter again and she swings back toward a more depressive mood add it in. I hope that helps and hang in there. I know it\'s a rough road!

What you've shared has inspired me. I'm helping my mom with her stage 4 ovarian cancer which has returned with a vengeance. I have a daughter with ODD. Have you found anything that is effective? You are in my prayers.

Not rude, dumb or naive! We actually asked at the appointment! In the long run this class of chemo can cause leukemia. So cure one cancer to give yourself isn\'t really the best plan of action. They still don\'t know the best course for this chemo because as far as brain tumors go it\'s a relatively new drug in that it\'s been used for less than 15 years I think. Some go with lower doses for 18 months to two years and others go with the higher dose for one year which is the plan he is on. Hopefully it is the best one for us!

Hey Erin! So I was just thinking as I was reading this....why can't people just stay on chemo forever? Ok - I know that sounds really weird and bad - who wants to do that? If it doesn't have that many side effects, what are the reasons? Is it because chemo really is bad for you in the long term? I don't know - it just seems like it helps keep the tumor away, you know what I mean. This question is probably really naive but I wanted to ask anyway! Sorry if it was rude or dumb or whatever! Love ya!

Thank you so much for sharing that! I completely understand. I can remember the precise moment when the hole in my heart was put there. I took Colby to a cranial sacral therapy conference for pediatric workers once. They needed kids who needed extensive work done to train the new therapists. Anyway one of the three who were working on Colby as I held him suddenly asked me if it was okay if she included me in the session. I agreed and she gasped as she placed her hand on my back over where my heart is. She had just been touching my shoulder and working on Colby but when she moved down she actually gasped and said \"I don\'t think I\'ve ever met anyone before with such a big hole in their heart. This really changed who you are!\" I couldn\'t explain the feeling that I\'d had there ever since we found out about the stroke and as soon as she said it was like a light bulb moment. I remember thinking \"Oh that\'s what that is. A hole in my heart. Makes sense.\" Anyway mine isn\'t gray so much as a dark black hole that I can feel and I know that if I let it, it would consume me so I tuck it away and ignore it but you are right. It\'s always there. I don\'t know that I can get rid of it but I can keep it at bay and so just like you that\'s the choice I make every day! Anyway, thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your story. It\'s nice to know that there are others out there who can identify with the emotions that come from having a pre brain damaged child and a post brain damaged child. Not many people can understand that!
