Home School Adventure Co. has graciously sent us a download link to the Creative Freewriting Adventure and the Creative Freewriting Adventure Coloring Book Edition for review. I’ve never liked be having to conform to formal ways of writing. I hated memorizing rules and trying to fit things into neat little paragraphs. I still struggle with that. My best work always comes from writing and then going back to shape and mold into something readable. Jahnna struggles with the same idea, and we had been working freewriting before this review.
The text continues with students learning about Pythagoras, Xenophanes, and Democritus. Following those individuals concepts of Eternity, The Wise Woman and others fill the pages with interesting facts and stories.
Creative Writing Thoughts
I originally planned on using this program with Jahnna. I quickly amended that to include Riley. Jahnna is in 8th grade while Riley is in 4th. I asked each one which version they would prefer, and they both chose the Coloring Book edition. I found Creative Freewriting Adventure to be completely adaptable to each of them.
Riley needed some help with pronunciations but was otherwise able to read the text independently. Riley completed one story a week and had little trouble stopping when the timer went off. Jahnna ignored the timer and continued to write for quite awhile after the time was up.
I loved how creative this form of writing allowed each daughter to be. They had the same writing prompts and came up with completely different ideas on what to write about. After the stories had been written, they each wanted to read them allowed to anyone who would listen! It’s been a lot of fun seeing and hearing their tales while listening to them encourage each other in their writing abilities.
I can confidently recommend any of the Home School Adventure Co. products. Every program we have used from this company has been information filled and helped to further my kid’s education. Creative Freewriting Adventure is not going to teach your child spelling or grammar, but I found it to be a wonderful supplement to develop creativity when writing.
