Final Surgery Update #prayingforcolby #dystonia

Colby is done and waking up in recovery. Well, he’s really still sleeping and they will come get me when he wakes up.

He did wonderful. No problems. A little bit of air got in where his stroke damage is but they said that isn’t unusual and won’t cause a problem so nothing to worry about.

They went with a single generator in his stomach instead of two. I’m so happy about that. It’s hard enough to recover from one abdominal incision so I was hoping for one.

They turned it on in surgery and his eye twitched and his fingers curled which are adverse reactions but that’s good. They ramped it up way higher than he would ever be at so that was the reaction they wanted.

They might turn it on in a couple days, we will just have to wait and see how he does.

Both the neurosurgeon and the neurologist said they were pleasantly surprised at how well it went given the challenges Colby presented. Smaller brain, different sides of the brain and the damage isn’t exactly the same on each side, the area between the damaged area and the area it was placed is very thin were some of the more difficult aspects of the surgery.

I cannot thank all of you enough that prayed and sent good thoughts  for Colby. If you’d like to keep praying for him and a speedy recovery we’d appreciate that too. I’ll update a bit later when he’s settled and happy. It might be tomorrow before I can do it though.

I’m exhausted. I didn’t get to sleep until midnight and was up at 3:15 to drive down here. John never did fall asleep. I think having a kid go through surgery is a little like labor. You forget all the bad parts after it happens until your back in the middle of it. I’m so thankful that we were able to receive so much support from everyone. You’ll never know how much it means to us because I can’t possibly express it in words.

Oh! Heavenly Merciful Father! I lift up this family and especially Colby in prayer! You are the mighty healer, the One that can provide miracles. May you provide a speedy and successful healing to Colby. May the prayers of his parents and family be heard and answered. Send your angels to his bedside to provide him comfort and healing. May they fight a mighty battle for him during his time of recovery. Please send strength and peace to his parents so that they do not grow weary. You are the ultimate comforter, the mighty prince warrior and healer. We are thankful for all that you do for us! -AMEN!

Your family will continue to be in our prayers!

This was the first chance I had to get on my computer today, but Colby was in my thoughts and prayers all day. I’m so happy that the surgery went well. I hope he recovers quickly and you’re home soon. Here’s to getting better!

I’m here for the first time–after reading about your story and Colby’s surgery at Little Yaya’s.

I’ve experienced the gut-wrenching anxiety of having a critically ill child in the hospital and want you to know that I am praying for you and your family, for Colby, and for the doctors and care-givers. I especially pray that this procedure will exceed your expectations in relieving Colby’s pain and muscle spasms. Prayer is a powerful, amazing thing and there really is no limit to what God can accomplish–even (especially) when we are at the end of ourselves.

God bless, Sharon
